Accessibility Statement
Introduction
The Disruptive TEI course is designed with a commitment to accessibility, care, and inclusion. Grounded in disability justice, antiracist pedagogy, and decolonial research methodologies, this course recognizes that equitable access is not just a legal requirement but an ethical imperative.
Platform and Content Accessibility
- Screen Reader Compatibility: All lessons are formatted to work with screen readers. Semantic HTML and proper heading structures are used throughout the site.
- Keyboard Navigation: Course interfaces are fully navigable by keyboard without reliance on a mouse or trackpad.
- Alt Text and Media Descriptions: All images include descriptive alt text to support users who rely on screen readers or prefer text-based alternatives. While the course currently does not include audio or video content, all visual media (such as screenshots or diagrams) are accompanied by clear, contextual descriptions. If multimedia elements are added in the future, they will be fully captioned and supplemented with transcripts to maintain accessibility.
- Color and Contrast: Colors and text styles have been chosen to meet WCAG AA/AAA standards for readability and visual contrast. There is no reliance on color alone to convey meaning.
- Accessible Forms: Any forms available on our website are designed with accessibility in mind. We include clear instructions and descriptive labels for form fields to facilitate completion and ensure that they are compatible with screen readers and other assistive technologies.
- Responsive Design and Compatibility: Responsive Design and Compatibility: Our website is designed to be responsive and compatible with various devices, web browsers, screen sizes, and assistive technologies, ensuring a consistent experience for all users.
Flexible Participation
- Self-Paced and Nonlinear: Learners may move through lessons in any order and at any pace. Skipping or revisiting content is supported and encouraged.
- Optional Assessments: All quizzes, live coding exercises, and gamification features (points, badges, etc.) are optional. They are included to support engagement, not as requirements.
- Multiple Modalities: Whenever possible, materials are presented in text, code, and visual examples to accommodate different learning styles and access needs.
Learner Support and Responsiveness
- Contact and Feedback:If you encounter any access barriers or have specific needs, please contact the course team at admin@disruptive-tei.com. Feedback is welcomed and will be used to continually improve access.
- Device Compatibility: The course platform is mobile-friendly and compatible with assistive technologies including screen magnifiers and text-to-speech software.
Inclusive Philosophy
This course recognizes that access needs are not problems to be fixed but important expressions of how people engage with the world. Inspired by principles of crip technoscience, care ethics, and design justice, we aim to create a learning space where all participants can engage meaningfully — not despite their needs, but in recognition of them.
We welcome feedback from learners with disabilities, neurodivergent learners, chronically ill learners, and those navigating barriers to traditional education. Your insights help shape a more just and inclusive digital humanities.
